Will I have to do role-play on your courses?

Participants playing characters in a story

Have you had bad experiences doing role-play?

We hope to put your mind at rest.

The Sunflower Effect is very different. It is a highly effective confidence-building system that draws on an adapted form of drama. It is designed for people with confidence issues. and has worked even for people who feel seriously inhibited.

You will be invited to play out a dramatic character which is very different from role play

If you have had bad experiences doing role play on other training courses, you may find this very different – and even quite a lot of fun.

A dramatic character is three-dimensional. It is closer to the human personality, which gives free rein for you to interpret him/her in any way you would like.

There is no right or wrong way to play the character, unlike in a drama class.

You don’t even have to be any good at doing drama. That is not the focus of the Sunflower Effect®. And this is why the Sunflower Effect® is so effective at building confidence for quiet, shy and introverted people.

You may be surprised to learn that you instinctively knew how to play out a character as a child. Playing pretend games is part of the way we develop as children. Every child can do this.

Although you may have got a bit rusty – this ability will never leave you. Even if you never played dressing-up games as a child. It is part of our human make-up.

We did this naturally when we were children

The Sunflower Effect is designed to make working with drama much easier for you. There is a suitcase of dressing-up clothes, hats, brightly coloured fabrics, scarves, shoes, masks and wigs through which you can create your own costumes. This makes it much easier to step into the shoes of the character. But you don’t have to use these if you don’t want to.

The purpose of working with character is to permit you to express yourself in very different ways than you do in your normal life. And this will stretch you out of your comfort zone.

The more you stretch your comfort zone, the more comfortable you feel in situations where you previously felt self-conscious or embarrassed.

You will be working in a group, so there will be an opportunity to collaborate with others, and this is where the magic begins to happen.
